Making History at the Cebu Blog Camp 2010

“Cebu Blog Camp Hangover” – That’s my status in Facebook, Plurk and Twitter yesterday. Just like the rest of the Cebu Campers who attended the first ever Cebu Blog Camp, I still can’t blog in a straight news way. I will try anyway. Or maybe not.

Nah, I'm not singing. I'm narrating my blog story here! :P

Nah, I'm not singing. I'm narrating my blog story here! πŸ˜›

For the sixth time in nine months, I found myself stepping at the Mactan International Airport last Friday. I am back in the Queen City of the South for the Cebu Blog Camp 2010. I was invited by Winston to speak about the Basics of Blogging and I immediately said yes when he mentioned about it months ago. I was sick and sleepless when I arrived, so I went straight to my hotel room to have a nap – which resulted to six hours of sleep 0_0. I missed the trip to Maribago Beach Resort because of that, so I went straight to Ayala Mall instead to finalize my presentation for the talk the next day.

So Saturday is the big day! I wasn’t able to sleep and I looked like a zombie when I ate my breakfast. I am thankful that Ate Ria was there and she did my make-up for that morning πŸ˜€ I am not really into make-ups and stuff, that’s why I am glad that Ate Ria was more than willing to help me look like a normal person for my talk teehee.

Before My Talk :) Special Thanks to Ria Jose :D

We arrived at the venue at around 8:15AM. I saw familiar faces and new ones too. I am impressed with the venue – big screen, wide space, air-conditioned and organized. I think the only thing that failed in the event is the slow wifi connection, but its no biggie anyway πŸ˜›

X and Doyzkie were assigned to host the event. I would like to congratulate them for entertaining the campers that day. Good job! πŸ˜€ While the registration was ongoing, the two asked a number of bloggers to pitch in their blogs and asked random questions too.

My Short Stint as a Newspaper Model LOL

My Short Stint as a Newspaper Model LOL

Before the whole camp thing started, the organizers grouped the attendees into different groups for an icebreaker game. I went to the White Rabbit team and I became a newspaper model in an instant LOL. Got the chance to meet other bloggers and they dressed me up using five leaves of old newspapers. We lost though haha πŸ˜€

The ‘lecture’ part didn’t start on time that’s why Ate Aileen discussed about Blogger and Adsense first (the de Jesus family needed to catch their trip to Bohol). After her talk, the speakers introduced me to speak about the Basics of Blogging *nervous*

I went on-stage and went down after a few minutes. I got the chance to interview three newbie bloggers on what their blogs are all about before I proceeded in narrating my very own blogging history. I went straight to presenting my slide afterwards.

What is Blog, Blogger and Blogging? And Why is Ada in my presentation? 0_0

Primarily, I discussed about the important terms of blogging, reasons to blog, types of blogs (accdg to form and genre), anatomy of a blogpost and gave some tips and advice. It’s actually my third time to speak on Blogging 101 (iBlog5 and iBlogMini), but I decided to add more contents and used the blogs made of Cebu-based bloggers as examples. I even asked some of them to give a little overview about their blogs πŸ™‚ I just thought that maybe recognizing them will somewhat inspire the other attendees to pursue blogging. I also encouraged them to socialize with other bloggers because offline interaction is very important πŸ™‚

It feels good to hijack Mr. Ratified to speak in public hehehe :P

I think I also made history by hijacking Mr. Ratified to speak about ratifying blogs (wut) πŸ˜›

Van’s talk about Photoblogging and Videoblogging 101 is interesting. I was able to catch the first part, but I had to leave immediately to fix some problems at the hotel. I feel bad that I missed Tita Janette Toral’s talk about Influential Bloggers. FYI, she is the first person to push me to actually talk in public about blogging. One of the first individuals who believed in me πŸ™‚ Got most of the contents of my talk at her Blogging From Home book (get a copy now!).

Went back to the venue by lunch break. After eating, Ka Bino toured us in Osmena’s house located at the second floor of the venue (will blog more about this soon).

The first speaker of the afternoon session is Ate Ria, who talked about Community Blogging. I really paid attention to her talk primarily because her statements were intense πŸ˜› I remember admiring the way she talked about Community Blogging in Davao way back in 2008 during the iBlog4 Summit πŸ˜› Oh, i love her dress πŸ˜€

We had to leave again during Brad Geiser’s talk, but I read a lot of tweets with his quotable quotes. It seems like the campers really learned a lot from his talk and I feel so bad that i missed it πŸ™

Juned Sonido discussed about the Basics of Blogging Ethics thru storytelling. It is a very timely topic that both newbies and longtime bloggers need to pay attention to.

Next is Tonyo Cruz, who basically discussed about Citizen’s Journalism. He is the perfect speaker for this and he had a number of quotable quotes too hihihi.

Wilson Ng and Jayvee Fernandez talked about marketing YOU. Both discussed interesting topics in a different approach. Jayvee presented a number of diving videos and if only i can dive into the screen and discover the underworld in an instant T_T

SEO enthusiast paid extra attention to the talk of Hans Koch. Had to go outside though to talk to some of my Cebuano friends πŸ˜€

The event ended up with the usual camwhoring sessions and the class picture. Here are some of the photos I took during the event:
