On Blogging, College Life and Lyceum-Northwestern University

As a college student, I am active with extra-curricular activities. In fact, I am willing to sacrifice my academic standing for the organization I am a part of. My college life was pretty colorful. I became a member of the school dance troupe in first year and got the opportunity to learn and appreciate the basics of jazz. On my sophomore year, I met a number of responsible students who acted as leaders in their respective departments.

I think I was dancing the last time i stepped in this stage LOL

Luckily, I became an officer in a department dominated by Engineering students. I also worked part-time as an encoder for the school’s newly-implemented enrollment system and took side On-the-Job Training there. It’s fun to work with people who are idealistic yet they know how to enjoy life.

Jaypee, Lecel, Mica and Edmon as college students (2006)

I already maintained my personal blog back then and would write about my daily life. I would rant about school, my classmates, my addiction to Philippine and Korean telenovelas, celebrities, Pinoy Big Brother (nyahaha) and my family specifically my brother Carlo. I discovered that it is possible for me to earn extra income from my blog through sponsored reviews and text links in 2007.

2011 Conference on IT Concepts: A Slice of the Web Today (Lyceum-Northwestern University)

I am packing my stuff for tomorrow! I’ll be returning to Dagupan City and this time, I am tagging some blogger friends with me for a seminar at my beloved alma mater, Lyceum-Northwestern University.

I’ve been invited as a speaker to several blogging events and most of the time, I am sharing my own insights on Basics of Blogging (Blogging 101) and Personal Blogging. Usually, I’d meet aspiring bloggers after each talk and i’d see them work on their own platforms a month after. The Philippine Blogging Community is indeed growing.

Cinemalaya 2011 Awards Night Photos and Highlights

After watching all the independent films created by our beloved Filipino filmmakers, everyone is anticipating for the Cinemalaya Awards Night. Who will bag the Best Film Award? Best Actor? Best Actress? These questions are meant to be answered in that particular Sunday Night.

Cinemalaya 2011 Winners

Just like any other Cinemalaya addicts, I went to the Cultural Center of the Philippines at 5pm despite the heavy rain. For the last time, I went around the  souvenir wall and took some photos. The directors and celebrities of the competing films gamely posed for the cameras and granted interview requests from the press and their supporters.

7th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival Gala Premiere Photos

My presence in the online world is hardly felt last week. I focused on watching the competing films featured at the 7th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. There are over 30+ films featured and just like the previous years, I focused on the New Breed Category. There are nine competing films under the New Breed category this year and I am proud to say that I saw ALL of them.

Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)

I am happy with the line-up of indie films this year. The organizers see to it that the movies for this year are from different genres with various themes. These movies made me cry, laugh, wonder, worry, depress, grateful and learned a lot from each film. The trailers are not spoon-feeding. I noticed a number of films that gave a melodrama impression to those who viewed the teasers on YouTube, but they end up to be far from what we expected. I think that is a big plus compared to most of our mainstream films where they give too much information about the story. Why watch then?

I only missed three days in Cinemalaya: The Opening Night, the Sunday and Wednesday screening. I was present in the rest of the movie days and luckily, I got the chance to attend the Gala Premiere of the following movies: Nino by Loy Arcenas, I-Libings by Rommel Sales, Isda by Adolf Alix Jr., Ang Babae sa Septic Tank by Marlon Rivera and Chris Martinez, Cuchera by Joseph Laban, Ligo Na U, Lapit na Me by Erick Salud, Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Paa by Alvin Yapan, Bahay Bata by Eduardo Roy Jr., Rakenrol by Quark Henares and Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington by Jade Castro. Whew!

Bloggers Fest 2011 @ Thunderbird Resorts Rizal

For the very first time, I stepped in together with 200+ bloggers in Thunderbird Resorts in Binangonan, Rizal. Last year, I was able to stay for three days and three nights at Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point in San Fernando, La Union. I enjoyed my stay in the Santorini-like resort that’s why when Azrael asked me if i can be a speaker to the Bloggers Fest 2011 event, i immediately said yes! :P

Discussing 'Sharing Your Story Through Personal Blogging' by Maire Magante

My topic for the Bloggers Fest 2011 is ‘Sharing Your Story Through Personal Blogging‘. It is a topic that I am comfortable with and to be honest, I created the slide a few hours before going to the bus pick-up point in Makati. I decided to keep it short and straightforward.

With me to the venue is my high school bestfriend Maire, whom i am pushing to be an active blogger since she writes well and she also takes good pictures. Sayang naman ang talent kung hindi mae-expose! :P I saw familiar faces in the pick-up point, but wow, there are so many newbies! It is a good sign for the Philippine Blogosphere. I think majority of them consider it as their first blog event ever. It means they really want to learn and explore on what’s out there.
