The Things We Do For Love

The Things We Do For Love - Despite the Differences

LOVE is complicated. LOVE is unpredictable. LOVE is all about timing.

I am currently listening to the song ‘The Things We Do For Love’ by Lovers and Poets, one of my favorite indie duo that i accidentally discovered online. I even bought the full album because their songs are truly moving especially when i need to keep in touch with the ‘hopeless romantic’ in me.

I just realized that last year, I didn’t really update the Love’ category of this blog. Just like the previous years, i am still single and i am not desperately looking, but i won’t deny that i am longing for it.

Love is complicated – Do you agree with me? (Let me hear you say ‘Yes!’) There are many factors on why Love is complicated in various scenarios. There’s what you call a ‘whirlwind romance’ wherein everything happens in just a snap and the ending of the fast-paced love story is usually not that lovely. When you confess that love after years or centuries, there is a  possibility that the other person is already tired of waiting for you that’s why he/she decided to look for someone else even if he/she likes you too. There is also what you call the ‘unrequited love’. There is also ‘forbidden love’. So many categories, so many complicated situations.

Love is unpredictable – I’ll give you one scenario: You met this guy/girl then you started going out often. You also do communicate everyday through chat, text and calls. You go out to watch movies, eat dinner in a restaurant or simply gallivant around the city together. Just the two of you. Sounds romantic, right? You thought everything is already falling into place until SNAP! The feeling is not mutual. Or maybe it is, but the other one is not ready. Or maybe you two are already in love, but none of you is brave enough to tell the truth. Or maybe… So many Maybe’s. Unpredictable like the weather!

Love is all about timing – I bet most of you have experienced this. You like this person and you’ve been waiting for him to tell you that he likes you too. You’ve been waiting looooooonnngggg enough then someone equally good comes in the picture and he gives you the attention that you need. Later on, you realized that you’re starting to like this new person and you’re slowly forgetting the other one. Now that you’re about to say ‘Yes’ to the new guy, the old one will start to confess his true feelings towards you. Why only now?! Like, WHY?! I loved you all along but tsk.

You see, i rant about love right now but i’ve never been involved in a serious relationship. So why i wrote about the Love Stuff above?

Let’s just say that i simply want to πŸ˜›

I am amazed on how some people really do some things they don’t normally do when they’re in love. I know some people who were willing to leave their high-paying  jobs just to migrate in another country and with a hope to build a good family. Building a good career means you need to finish college, take up a masteral course, work in the corporate setting and build your own name at your chosen field. Some managed to leave it all behind just to follow the one they truly love who lives on a different place.

There are some who can be tagged as ‘martyrs’ because they accept the positive and the negative side of their partners. I only feel bad for those who are victims of physical and emotional abuse.

Couples who succeeded in the ‘long-distance’ set-up also gain my admiration. I think as long as your communication lines are open and you are honest with each other, this will work. There is Skype, YM and your mobile phone is there too! You have all the tools to keep the communication line open. This has its pros and cons and loyalty is tested in this set-up. If you’re in love, you’re willing to take all the sacrifices just to keep the relationship going.

Interracial Relationships = one tough thing, i should say. I think in this type of relationship, you don’t only deal with that person you’re in love with. You have to embrace their beliefs and traditions. That is what i’ve observed while i’m here in England. Being mixed in a group of people composed of mixed nationalities can cause ‘culture shock’ to one, but once you’ve learned to embrace the differences, everything will work out well.

So complicated, eh? When a person is in love, he/she is willing to do make some sacrifices just to make a relationship work, or to make the other person feel his sincerity. If one wants to be in a serious relationship, he/she must be willing to take risks, accept the differences and adjust. I haven’t reached that part yet but who knows, i might just share my own tidbits about it soon.

No regrets, just love. <3

*** I’m trying to write a romantic short screenplay, but i ended up writing this post. I guess i’m inspired now πŸ˜› ***

I envy those people who are madly in love- doesnt matter if that someone loves him back in return. The fact that you feel that you feel love is already a gift. Swerte!

Love really can be complicated at times. It’s also confusing. I tried to make a long distance relationship work once, but it didn’t. It can be hard at times, but if you take some risks it will work out in the end.

@Steve – I agree with you. The LDLA is quite challenging and it’s really a big risk since there is no physical contact. Thanks for dropping by πŸ™‚
