Before I Say Hello to Singapore…

It’s 2:05 in the morning (though my blog time stamp is not set well 😐 ) and I haven’t slept yet. I tried to get at least an hour of sleep, but I really can’t. I tried to pack all the things that I’ll be needing for the trip, but I kept on going back to the monitor.

Lolo: Are you the one and only culprit of the Pringles in the redbox crime?! Mica: I'm guilty. Peace Grandpa :D

Lolo: Where are you going? Mica: I'm going to Singapore, Lah!

I am used to last minute packing when I travel, but I know that this specific trip is extra special and somewhat a first for me. Actually, I still can’t believe up to this second that I’m about to go to Singapore to attend the Nuffnang Blog Awards.

For quite sometime, my grandparents and some of my nyok friends were forcing me to renew my passport, which expired last March 1999 (more than ten years ago!). The only country I went to is Hongkong in 1994 and I was just six or seven years old that time. I remember riding the Cathay Pacific plane and dreamt of having my own hotel exclusive for kids and an airline wherein the pilot and the stewardess are all kids. Ok, that’s a big headache if it came true.

Now I am 22 and just twelve hours ago, I claimed my renewed passport at the DFA office. I am quite amused with the fast service of DFA. Though I look terribly sleepy in my passport photo, I am more than happy to finally have it in my hands.

Then I printed my e-ticket and the Singapore itinerary at Netopia. I kept on reading what was written on the paper, but weh, the Singapore trip won’t sink in. I remember wanting to go to Singapore when I was in elementary simply because I want to go to MTV Singapore and meet my favorite Veejays like Nadya, Sarah and Sonya. Know them? If yes, then you’re a certified MTV Asia 90’s kid.

I borrowed a silver cocktail dress from Ate Jackie, but I find it too short or too sexy. I bought a 3 inches high-heeled shoes this afternoon and as I stare at it now, I can’t help but wonder why I bought that shoe. I mean, I’m already tall, right? Why do I need extra inches to increase my height? I am hoping to see an Australian, Malaysian or Singaporean blogger who is taller than me even if I am wearing that high-heeled shoes.

I will not bring any denim pants because its heavy. I’m bringing some shorts instead and a few tops. Mix and match is the answer. I also asked Hannah and Jane if they have extra cocktail dress that I can borrow for the awards night tonight. Sigh. Awards night….

Speaking of awards night, just last month, Jehz and I were talking at the taxi about the possibility of attending the Nuffnang Blog Awards. He said that he thinks he won’t make it in the cut (the nominees were not yet revealed then). When he got home, he was speechless upon reading the email indicating that he is one of the five finalists for the Most Influential Blog in Asia. Though he is surprised with it, I am personally not surprised. He is influential in his own way. Ask his legions of fans… i mean… fans turned friends in the Philippine Blogosphere. Again, even if i wrote a lot of good things about him in the past, I will never get sick and tired of praising him and telling the truth.  I can’t wait to see him in his formal attire as he represents the Filipino bloggers. We are hoping that he’ll win.

I am happy because the trip is shared with blogger friends like Ada (my roommate – again!), Maki (who said she misses me. awww), Hannah (tgsh tgsh tgsh), Jane (expecting more girl talks from her), Fran, Tita Noemi, Jonel (Let’s Go Sago sa Singapore Lah!), Yoshke to name a few. I am also looking forward to meeting some Nuffies from Australia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Did you know that I was broke a few days ago? I am happy than my mom and grandfather gave me some pocket money a few hours ago. For some reason, everyone in the family is excited for me in this trip. They can’t believe that I am going to Singapore for free!

How will I end this post? Hmmmm…. End Lah πŸ˜€

    Greetings!

I am Carell Ocampo, a Psychology student at De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. I am completing a research for Univ 2010, it is an international research writing conference in Rome (http://www.univforum.org/english/univ2010.html).

My research is on family and work related virtues shared among women from across the globe. It is a social cognitive analysis of life review of 6 female bloggers from Asia, Europe, United States, Middle East, Africa and Australia. This is to inform you that I have chosen your website in this particular study for the reason that it qualifies to the standards that I am looking for in a blog (insight-filled and well-written). You may or may not choose to reveal your name or website in this particular study. I am willing to send you a copy of the research paper once it has been published. For questions or comments you can reach me through my e-mail: carell_ocampo@yahoo.com.

Thank you very much for your kind response.
