Melanie Brown a.k.a. Mel B is one of my childhood heroes. I do think that her Scary Spice persona is still evidently seen in her recent gig as judge of America’s Got Talent. She is fearless, talented and surpassed a lot of trials in her career and even personal life.

I loved her debut album “HOT” (1999). Her sophomore album “LA State of Mind” had very minimal publicity and the copies of the album are scarce. Imagine how happy I was (and I bet other Spice Girls fans were!) when she all of a sudden announced her new single called “For Once In My Life” via PerezHilton’s website. Woah, this is madness!

“For Once In My Life” is a feel-good dance track with a very positive message. The music video partly reminds me of the iconic “Wannabe” music video. When asked what pushed her to finally release a new song, she said that she got the inspiration while sitting on the judging panel of America’s Got Talent. She felt the urge to come up onstage and perform again. When she went home, she told her husband and close friends about it and viola, a new song is made!

As of writing, Mel B is not yet signed with a record label (she released the song and music video independently). It is her first song in eight years and I can say that she is off to a good start! Hopefully, she’ll collaborate with the best music producers. Come on, Mel B. Time to Spice Up the Music Charts again! 😀
