On Wordcamp Philippines 2010 and Matt Mullenweg

Last October 2, 2010, WordPress users from different parts of the Philippines gathered at the College of Saint Benilde for the Wordcamp Philippines 2010. It is the 3rd Wordcamp in Metro Manila and my first time to be included in the list of speakers.

Months ago, Avatar Media asked me if I can do a talk regarding the Anatomy of a WordPress Blog, which is included at the Basic Track. I presented my straight-to-the-point slide to my students. I know that some of them find my talk a bit fast and too short, but I am happy that they openly asked questions and I hope I was able to answer them. Talking to some of them personally also made me feel a bit more comfortable and less worried πŸ˜€ Actually, I can see myself in some of them when I attended the first WordcampPH two years ago.

I’ll be honest here. I was thrilled about the Wordcamp  not mainly because of the talks. Wordcamp is actually a nice venue to interact with other bloggers and meet new friends. I met some of the readers of my blog who were not really posting any comments yet they are reading my daily whereabouts. The fact that some approached me about my Project52Weeks blog made my day πŸ˜€

I also got the chance to reunite with some of the bloggers from Visayas and Mindanao particularly Cebu, General Santos and Davao. Also talked to some of my Manila-based friends whom I haven’t seen for the longest time due to their hectic schedule. Whew!

Of course, the highlight of the main event is the presence of Mr. WordPress himself Matt Mullenweg (the ‘Brat Pitt of the Blogosphere’ as what Orman said). To be honest, I like him better now πŸ˜› In 2008, I only managed to take a photo with him. This time, he freely went around the venue and talked to WordPress users whether they are newbies or veterans in the blogging field. That set-up appeals more to me. At least you can feel that he is just a normal human being who wants to meet all sorts of people as possible. πŸ˜›

As expected, bloggers took photos with co-bloggers and this is my favorite activity in every event πŸ˜› Here are some of the photos from my camera πŸ˜€

Feel free to grab them as long as you show some link love to your post weee πŸ˜› More photos here.

The organizers, speakers and volunteers went straight to Shakey’s Malate for an after-party with Matt. Luckily, he joined our table. We were able to know more about him that is very far away from his image as Mr. WordPress. We didn’t really see a Human WordPress Logo when we were with him LOL.

Matt Mullenweg says Hi! :D

We were also able to take a short video for P52W also featuring Sarah and Cai. Up to this day, I still can’t remember why we recorded that type of video LOL πŸ˜› I called that entry ‘PoutPress’, inspired by WordPress πŸ˜›

Although sleepless and tired, I can say that I really had fun on the first Saturday of October 2010. Thanks to the people behind WordcampPH for making the third gathering possible. See you in Wordcamp PH 2011!

Haha! Same here, I actually go primarily for the people. It’s a great opportunity to see my blogger friends from all over the Philippines again! Extra treat na lang yung talks lol.

But this WordCamp is exceptionally fun! I learned so much, and I’m actually preparing a couple of presentations to share what I learned with my team here at work. Great job, Avatar Media and WordCampPH 2010 volunteers!
