Top 12 Lip Sync Battle Philippines Season 1 Performances

LIP SYNC BATTLE PHILIPPINES is currently on their second season. As a fan of the show, I witnessed some underwhelming performances. On the other hand, there are devoted participants who took an effort in rehearsing and memorizing their songs.

Movie Review: The Bride and The Lover

Last Wednesday, Maki and I met up in Trinoma Cinema to catch the first screening of ‘The Bride and The Lover’. It is the only Filipino Film on the line-up of films launched that day. It is the newest movie from Regal Films starring Lovi Poe, Paulo Avelino and Jennylyn Mercado.

The Three Victims of Love

The Three Victims of Love

Prior to entering the cinema, I have instilled certain ‘expectations’. Joel Lamangan is one of the most-respected directors in Philippine Cinema and he concentrated in political-themed films on the past few years. It is a breather to finally see him do semi-funny film again. I was looking forward to the dialogues since it is penned by Rody Vera, who is responsible for the screenplay of Cinemalaya favorites NINO and REquieme.

Now let’s proceed to my expectations on the cast members: Paulo Avelino recently won awards for his portrayal as Nathan in ‘Walang Hanggan’ and in the indie film ‘Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa’. Lovi Poe is quite controversial these days because of her supposed ‘network transfer’. Is she staying with GMA-7 or is she moving to TV5? Or is she signing up with ABS-CBN? She also garnered nominations for her portrayal in Thy Womb and Legacy. This movie also serves as Jennylyn Mercado’s comeback project with Regal Films. She starred in a number of teeny-bopper films and the fans are eager to see if she can handle such role.

On The Movie Set: The Bride and the Lover

I received an invitation from Regal Films’ PR Head to join them on the last shooting day of ‘The Bride and the Lover’, an upcoming sexy-comedy film under the direction of Joel Lamangan and screenplay by Rody Vera. It stars the in-demand Kapamilya leading man Paulo Avelino and Kapuso leading ladies Jennylyn Mercado and Lovi Poe.

I met up with Mr. Jun Lalin and the rest of the media writers at the lobby area of Imperial Palace Suites. The location of the last shooting day is in Fernwood Gardens. I remember this one incident wherein we got lost when we had to attend a wedding reception there many years ago.

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles – A Horror/Comedy Film Worth Watching!

The movie Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is one ambitious film. For years, the people behind the project were talking about it and you can see in the film output that the hard work paid-off.

Director Erik Matti with Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles lead stars Lovi Poe and Dingdong Dantes

Last night, my friend Maire and I made it to the last full screening of Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles in Gateway Cinema. As they say, when real-life horror hunts you, better relax and watch a movie!

I am happy that a lot of moviegoers chose to watch this Filipino over the other foreign films. The cinema is almost full when we sat in our designated seats. When I saw the cast line-up, I already expected that I am about to watch a comedy-horror film… well, more on the comedy part.

Guni-Guni The Movie: Guilt, Fear and Too Much Information

August is a healthy month from the Filipino films. If last week I wrote about the feel-good Star Cinema film The Reunion, I am about to write about Regal Films’ Guni-Guni, which premiered in cinemas nationwide last Wednesday.

‘Horror Princess’ Lovi Poe in ‘Guni-Guni’

Days before its movie premiere, the people behind Guni-Guni experienced a lot of ‘real-life horrors’ particularly with the poster brouhaha and the so-called ‘rift’ between Mother Lily and Lovi Poe about a certain scene with Benjamin Alvez. I am not sure if this is part of their marketing strategy, but those are not really the reason why I want to watch this movie. Of course, Lovi Poe is the main reason. She is my current favorite actress and she never fails to impress me with her projects. Second, I would like to witness how Tara Illenberger (indie filmmaker/editor) will do as a mainstream director.

My Favorite Lovi Poe Characters in Movies

On March 14, the 28th Star Awards for Movies finally unveiled the list of winners. Mainstream flicks Asiong Salonga and In The Name of Love bagged a lot of awards. I’ve seen both films and I can say that the winners deserve the recognition especially to Aga Muhlach and Angel Locsin, who made me cry during their confrontation scene in the movie ‘In The Name of Love’.

Lovi Poe as Natasha Alcantara in GMA-7's Legacy

I would like to focus on the Best Supporting Actress winner though. She is no other than Lovi Poe! In this awards night alone, she was nominated in two categories: Best Actress for her role in My Neighbor’s Wife and Best Supporting Actress for the movie Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. She is nominated again in a different award-giving body for her role as Serafina in Temptation Island. Whew!

Right now, Lovi Poe is visible in GMA-7’s Primetime show ‘LEGACY’. Based on the write-ups and comments posted in different social networking sites, it seems like her portrayal as Natasha Alcantara is much loved by the viewers. I am hook to this series and I love how she delivers her lines as natural as possible.

We can conclude that 2011 was Lovi Poe’s year in terms of magazine pictorials and in mainstream movies. Mother Lily finally took the risk to shell out some money and launch Lovi as a mainstream movie actress. Last year, she appeared in five Regal-produced films: My Valentine Girls (uhm, that was an obligatory Vday movie for GMA), Temptation Island (where she stole the limelight from the supposedly more popular stars), My Neighbor’s Wife (sexy drama time!), Aswang (time to scare the kids!) and Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (where she bagged her new award). Prior to her current status in the biz, FPJ’s daughter appeared in indie films and I managed to watch majority of them. She is lucky to be given good roles and I will mention my Top 5 Favorite Lovi Poe Characters in Movies. Game? GAME!

Yesterday Today Tomorrow: A Star-Studded Christmas Drama

The Metro Manila Film Festival is a yearly event for moviegoers. It is the time of the year wherein families and friends get to bond while watching Filipino movies in the cinemas. For the whole week, only Filipino films that were chosen by the organizers of the said festival will be shown in all theaters in Metro Manila and in some provinces.

Yesterday Today Tomorrow official movie poster

One of the entries this year that really caught my attention is Regal Films’ Yesterday Today  Tomorrow. Under the direction of Jun Lana, this movie is the only family drama in the line-up. If you’re a Filipino movie fan, here are some reasons on why fans from all ages will surely be interested with this one:

Meet the Cast and Crew of ‘Aswang’: Is it Worth Watching?

It is my first time to be ‘indirectly’ involved in promoting a mainstream movie. The other Tuesday, I attended the second pocket press conference for the movie ASWANG, which was attended by its lead stars Paulo Avelino, Joem Bascon and Lovi Poe at Mesa Grill in Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

ASWANG stars Joem Bascon, Lovi Poe and Paulo Avelino ready to bite!

Just to give you a little background, Regal Films originally planned to produce an exact remake of the first ASWANG movie, where Alma Moreno played the lead role under the direction of Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes twenty years ago. Since there is a big obvious change in the society in the past years, scriptwriter Aloy Adlawan decided to make a screenplay with the necessary adjustments. When Jerold Tarog saw it, he suggested that they play around with the characters of the film which includes the inclusion of the Abuwaks. The film has the horror, suspense, family, drama, action comedy and romance factor. All in one, ika nga. In-aswang na lahat ng genre LOL.

Now let’s go to the Meet and Greet the cast part………

Lovi Poe and Paulo Avelino wants to bite and get bitten!

It is a tradition in the movie industry (international and local) to come up with a film that will scares or haunts its audience. It is already proven in the previous years that this genre sells – even if it talks about death and insanity.

ASWANG 2011 Starring Lovi Poe and Paulo Avelino

This year, Mother Lily’s Regal Entertainment Inc. brings you the ‘updated’ version of the horror classic ASWANG. The movie was directed by Peque Gallaga in 1992 and Alma Moreno played the title role.

Lovi-Poe-Paulo-Avelino43

For the new version, Lovi Poe bags this iconic role with Paulo Avelino as her leading man. Also included in the cast are Joem Bascon, Jillian Ward, Nina Jose, Mark Abaya, Albie Casino and Bembol Roco. Critically-acclaimed indie film director Jerrold Tarog is in-charge of the new version. I think Mother Lily liked how he directed last year’s Shake, Rattle & Roll ‘Punerarya’ episode, where Carla Abellana won some awards.

Sneak Preview of ‘My Neighbor’s Wife’ Pool Scenes in Subic

I am a Filipino movie fan whether that is mainstream or indie. It is the reason why I grabbed the opportunity when I was invited to come to the shooting of the upcoming sexy-drama film ‘My Neighbor’s Wife‘ yesterday in Subic. I mean, why not? Dennis Trillo, Jake Cuenca, Carla Abellana and Lovi Poe are four good reasons to say yes! 😛

My Neighbor's Wife Sexy Pool Scene in Subic

Together with the promo staff of the said movie and other friends from the online media, we all went to Kamana Sanctuary Resorts and Spa in Subic, Zambales. When we arrived, the cast just finished shooting some water adventure scenes (Jetski etc.). Some of the cast members were already eating their lunch while the rest granted interview requests.

Despite the unpredictable weather, the taping pushed through. I’m lucky because I was given the chance to interview all four and I took a lot of photos too!
