Dealing With Frustrations Productively

Why are you so lazy? Why are you so stubborn? Why are you frustrated?

I always put the blame on my zodiac sign every time someone points out how lazy turn out to be. I’d rather choose the word ‘Procrastinate’.

I always pinpoint my zodiac sign as the culprit on why I tend to procrastinate. I’ve been a bit unsatisfied the past few weeks because I feel like I haven’t done anything significant, yet I often impose too much pressure on myself to do better. Although I maintain a travel blog, there is a big misconception that I travel all the time and I rarely stay at home. That is not the case especially when I am in Metro Manila.

The reason on why I am feeling frustrated for months now has something to do with WAITING. No, I am not waiting for the love of my life (he’s on a year-long holiday break to whereverland). I am waiting for something important and this thing is stopping me from pursuing some of the things I’ve been planning to do.

Product Review: ProActiv’s 30-Day Trial Kit

One of my frustrations as a teenager is Acne. I think majority of high school students experienced a moment in their lives wherein they try to find ways to get rid of pimples and acne as fast as possible. There is a myth spreading around that having pimples is a sign that one person is in love. I am not sure if they invented this just to tell the youngters that they’re going through a normal phase, but this skin problem can also ruin one’s self-esteem – whether he/she is in love or not!

Unlike most girls, I never really exerted that much effort to work on this problem. I even worked once in a medical clinic that specializes in skin problems, and my short stay in that company opened my eyes to the possibilities. I guess I am not as driven as other girls in that department. I also find it dragging at times to put lotion in my body, much to my mother’s dismay.

Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 5: Alaska, Roxxxy or Jinkx?

The Big Reveal! Alaska, Roxxxy Andrews and Jinkx Monsoon are the three queens competing for the title ‘America’s Next Drag Superstar’ in Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 5.

Who will be America's Next Drag Superstar? Alaska, Roxxxy or Jinkx?

Who will be America’s Next Drag Superstar? Alaska, Roxxxy or Jinkx?

When the show started, I was rooting for Detox and Ivy Winters. I liked Detox because of her previous collaborations with Willam Belli. I’ve seen some of her performances via YouTube and it is obvious that she is quite a well-rounded performer. Maybe that is the reason why I expected much from her. I got curious about Ivy Winters because Manila Luzon kept on promoting her – she even revealed that Ivy is responsible for her outfits in the Best XXXcessory video. Dress me up, please?

Lessons Learned from Drag Queens

‘WHAT?! You have a big crush on a drag queen? That’s the weirdest statement I’ve ever heard in years!”

If a female friend of mine confessed her addiction on drag queens years ago, I’ll instantly give her a strange look. Do you have a serious problem in life that you don’t want me to know yet you can’t handle it? Tell me and I’ll listen. Let’s talk about boy bands instead.

But no. Actually, my love for drag queens started when I discovered LOGOTV’s Rupaul’s Drag Race. They’re currently airing the 5th season in the US of A and I’m proud to say that a lot of Filipino drag queens made it to the show. The fun part there is they look so pretty with the make-up and glamorous clothes, yet they look equally hot when out of drag. My Top Three favorite queens from all five seasons include Manila Luzon, Willam Belli and Ivy Winters.

199Jobs.com: New Marketplace for Filipino Freelancers

The growth of virtual assistants and online gigs is increasing every year. If you’ve noticed, there are more companies who are hiring home-based freelancers to do some tasks. After college, I had a short stint as a Virtual Assistant (VA). I even made a short film about it! The experience opened my eyes to the vast opportunities available for me even if I am not employed in a company the ‘traditional’ way. Of course, the urge to go corporate was so strong and as a fresh graduate that time, I was relieved to discover that I have other options.

Instead of sulking when receiving rejection feedback, why not go online and look for some freelance gigs to keep you busy?

80’s Boy Band BROS: Will the former pop stars be famous… again?

It’s time for me to feature a boy band that won the hearts of young girls worldwide in the late 80’s. I would like to reintroduce – BROS.

80's Boy Band BROS: Craig Logan, Matt and Luke Goss

80’s Boy Band BROS: Craig Logan, Matt and Luke Goss

I rediscovered Bros through a documentary about British pop. The original Bros line-up includes Matt Goss (lead vocals), Luke Goss (drums) and Craig Logan (bass). Matt and Luke are identical twins and Craig is their high school friend.

I remember stumbling to their music video for ‘When Will I Be Famous?’ as a kid (again, thanks to MTV Classics!). I even thought the lead singer is a woman (try to watch the music video :P). The Bros mania is considered short, but phenomenal in the 80’s. Young girls loved them and mothers consider them as ideal sons.

The Rise and Fall of East 17 – What Went Wrong?

Twenty years ago, the music world’s perception of boy bands include good-looking young boys who can sing, dance and make young girls (and gays) fall for them. Take That’s marketing strategy worked. Gary, Howard, Jason, Mark and Robbie are the types of guys your mom would want you to marry. The good boy image they project meant they need to follow some very strict rules like no partying in public, do not comment on political or social issues and no girlfriends.

East 17 – The Original ‘Bad Boys’ of British Pop.. hip-hop and RnB

East 17 did the opposite. Actually, I was surprised when I found out that East 17 were the ‘rival’ group of Take That. While Gary Barlow and the boys loved to sing ballads and revival hits, East 17 were original in the sense that Tony Mortimer wrote majority of their songs (all originals… am I right?), they’re not afraid to speak their mind and they’re sincerely project the ‘i-don’t-care-I-will-live-my-life-just-deal-with-it’ type of image.

People close to my age here in the Philippines might remember East 17 when they became E-17 on the late 90’s for the song ‘Each Time’ (included in the Now 5 compilation album). As a fan of MTV Asia Classic (every weekdays 11-11:30am), I’ve seen the music videos of the boys for House of Love, Deep and Stay Another Day.

TAKE THAT! – UK’s Top Boy Band of the 90’s are Back For Good

The Big Reunion relived my love for boy and girl bands. I am proud to say that I grew up in an era where pop music dominated the charts and most artists wrote their own material. For some reason, I prefer British acts over the American ones. I wrote a number of posts on how the Spice Girls inspired me to do better as a child and how the music of various artist mold me into an imaginative person like me today.

The Boys of Take That - A Happy Ending

The Boys of Take That – A Happy Ending

One of the Boy Bands who dominated the charts in the early 90’s is Take That. When you do the math, I was just five years old when the five boys from Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent made girls and gays giggle with their charisma. Honestly, I had a big crush on Robbie Williams when he emerged as a solo artist in the late 90’s. The MTV Asia addict that I am, I often catch the videos of Take That through MTV Classic. If the USA have the New Kids On The Block, UK is definitely proud of Take That!

The story of Take That is passable for a telenovela series. An ambitious manager named Nigel Martin-Smith held auditions for the next important boy band. He met Gary Barlow while he’s performing in a local pub. He is amazed with his songwriting and his vocal abilities. He then figured out that this talented fella may not be able to make it as a successful solo artist. The audition for the remaining Take That members was launched

On The Movie Set: The Bride and the Lover

I received an invitation from Regal Films’ PR Head to join them on the last shooting day of ‘The Bride and the Lover’, an upcoming sexy-comedy film under the direction of Joel Lamangan and screenplay by Rody Vera. It stars the in-demand Kapamilya leading man Paulo Avelino and Kapuso leading ladies Jennylyn Mercado and Lovi Poe.

I met up with Mr. Jun Lalin and the rest of the media writers at the lobby area of Imperial Palace Suites. The location of the last shooting day is in Fernwood Gardens. I remember this one incident wherein we got lost when we had to attend a wedding reception there many years ago.

Rock Fort Makati Boutique Residences Open House and Spa Party

Last November, I received a message from my friend McBilly. He is now based somewhere abroad, but I have to say that he is one of the nicest people I met in the blogosphere. He told me that his mom is now based in Manila and she would like to invite me in the Open House and Spa Party of Rock Fort Makati Boutique Residences. Since I have nothing to do that weekend, I said yes immediately.

Rock Fort Makati Open House

Together with Ada and Robbie, the three of us took a cab ride from Glorietta to Kalayaan Ave. Corner Edsa. The building is easy to find that’s why we arrived in the condo safely.

There were a number of guests when we arrived. Some were in the massage room, where they are pampered with a nice back massage. On the Jacuzzi/wadding pool side, there’s a line for foot spa. In one section, I saw the merienda table. I guess you know by now where I went first.

Tita Amy approached us while we’re in the lobby area. Now I know where McBilly got his charisma! 😀

We were given a quick tour to some of Rock Fort Boutique Residences’ units. The location is ideal for those who are working within Makati, The Fort and Rockwell area.
